Weekly Announcements 8/20 (Prayer Table) & 8/23 (Community Table)

Friends,

Though the official LAUNCH of Table Communities (details here) is quickly approaching, as our first FULLY PUBLIC service will be on Sunday, September 15th, 2019, church (the family of God) is already happening in the following spaces this week:

WEST PARK PRAYER TO ACTION - SAVOR THE MOMENT ON TUESDAYS 8/20 FROM 6:30 - 7:30 PM
The Pantelemons are hosting a prayer time for anybody who wants to pray that the blessings of God's kingdom would be evident in West Park. It takes place at the coffee shop (Savor the Moment on Rocky River Drive). There WILL be prayer, there MIGHT be coffee. I’m grateful that the prayers are focused and your time will be honored. Jim and Laurie like to get their beauty rest, so it ends promptly at 7:30 PM.

This Friday we're having a gathering at our house for dinner this Friday night starting at 6 pm. Please bring your favorite "summer side" -- think dessert or appetizer or salad and/or perhaps a beverage to pair with it.

COMMUNITY TABLE - ROCKY RIVER - BUEHRLE HOME ON FRIDAY 8/23 AT 6 PM ( 19781 Riverview Ave, Rocky River)
This Friday the Buehrles are having a gathering at their house for dinner this Friday night starting at 6 pm. Please bring your favorite "summer side" -- think dessert or appetizer or salad and/or perhaps a beverage to pair with it.

They’d like to get a head count, but the RSVP doesn't have to be sooner than noon on Friday (8/23). And they’ll forgive you if you just show up.

This is for "library streets" neighbors - but if you know the Buehrles well - you know they'll let you in if you pretend you live in the neighborhood ;)

It's been too long since we've seen many of you!

Peace,

Matt Buehrle

Weekly Announcements 8/18 "Taste of Table" - Lord's Table; Official Launch Coming!

Hi friends,

The official LAUNCH of Table Communities is quickly approaching. Our first FULLY PUBLIC service will be on Sunday, September 15th, 2019. Details here.

It feels good to be back in the groove. Back in the rhythm of opening our Tables to all who need to pull up a chair. Whether any of the rest of y'all need a space to find a chair at the table, I know I do. I need to pull up a chair and see all y'all whether at Lord's Table (Sunday services on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month), Family Table (what will now be our home based Sunday gatherings on 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month for a children's lesson and prayer time - and food and beverage, of course), or Community Table (good old fashioned neighborhood gatherings).

This Sunday (8/18), we're gathering at Hayes Elementary in Lakewood at 10:30 am for our final preview service (i.e. preseason church service). So, come on out and check it out and taste and see that Jesus is good. Details here.

Peace!

Matt Buehrle, Table Guardian and Planter

"Taste of Table" at Renew Communities; Book review of "The Church of Us vs. Them"

TASTE OF TABLE @ RENEW COMMUNITIES ON SUNDAY 7/21 - SERVICE TIMES ARE 9:30 AM & 11:15 AM We are grateful for the opportunity to run our typical Table Sunday service (Lord’s Table) in Renew’s space to give the congregation down in Berea the opportunity to get a feel for the way we run a service and to get more formally introduced to what we’re doing here at Table. This is a way to get a sneak peek before our September launch! There are two services to choose from (9:30 am & 11:15 am)

And now, Matt Buehrle's review of "The Church of Us vs. Them: Freedom from a Faith that Feeds on Making Enemies:"

Jesus said, "they will know you are Christians by the way you display animosity toward one another." Yes, that's how it seems like the church [at least in America] thrives. Not living for the King and his kingdom, but against "them."

David Fitch, as he has been doing for years now in books like "The End of Evangelicalism?" "Faithful Presence," and "The Prodigal Church" is calling the church back to thriving in God's presence and inviting others to do the same rather than expending energy fighting "the other." If you've read all of the books I listed, you still need to get your hands on "The Church of Us vs. Them" for a few reasons:

1. This book combines all three of his most recent books with more illustrations of how to get past just living the "us vs. them" antagonisms

2. This book is more accessible and practical than his prior books (especially "The End of Evangelicalism?" - which I loved by the way), which makes it a great book to read with others and a great book to give to others.

3.) This book is full of faith and hope. It seems that Fitch actually trusts that God will show up as people sit across the table from one another - trusting that God will be in their midst. I was moved by the fact that Fitch's critique of current Christian culture in America moved beyond critique and academic assessment and into a call to faith and hope that God will be present as we work through our antagonisms.

I can't overstate how important it was to me that faith and hope were oozing out of this book. I'm planning to give it to the core team of our church plant and will definitely have it available on our table for sale at our church gatherings.

“The Church of Us vs. Them” releases on 7/16 and is available for pre-order on Amazon here.

Special Announcement (gatherings through July)

Hi all!

Summertime brings down time for many. I hope this down time is a good time for up time - reflection and renewal. Because I (Matt) am going to be in and out of town through July and into the first week of August, I figured I could give you an update here of which gatherings are happening through July with a sneak peek to August.

COMMUNITY TABLE - WEST PARK - HISEY HOME ON SUNDAY 6/30 FROM 3-5 PM ( 3847 W 146 St. Cleveland) The Hiseys will be hosting a root beer float party. Delicious. I’ll be there.

WEST PARK PRAYER TO ACTION - SAVOR THE MOMENT ON TUESDAYS 7/2 & 7/16 FROM 6:30 - 7:30 PM
The Pantelemons are hosting a prayer time for anybody who wants to pray that the blessings of God's kingdom would be evident in West Park.  It takes place at the coffee shop (Savor the Moment on Rocky River Drive). There WILL be prayer, there MIGHT be coffee. As I’ve said many a time: I may not live in West Park, but I’m fond of that place.

In addition keep your eyes peeled for additional gatherings. I’m sure the Hiseys will be gathering in West Park more this summer and we (the Buehrles) will have a couple more cookouts. I’ll add the updates to this post.

Finally, please mark your calendars for two dates in particular: Sunday, August 18th is our final “preseason” Lord’s Table (Sunday service) gathering. Sunday, September 15th is our official “launch” date for Table as a fully functioning church. We’ll still be connected to Renew, as they continue to support us in many ways.

Peace my friends!

Matt Buehrle

Weekly Announcements for Tuesday, 6/18 (tonight)

West Park Prayer to Action - Savor the Moment - 6:30 - 7:30 pm on Tuesday 6/18:

Over in West Park the Pantelemons are hosting a prayer time for anybody who wants to pray that the blessings of God's kingdom would be evident in West Park.  It takes place at the coffee shop (Savor the Moment on Rocky River Drive). There WILL be prayer, there MIGHT be coffee. As I’ve said many a time: I may not live in West Park, but I’m fond of that place.

Weekly Announcement (singular) for Sunday 6/2 - Last "Preseason" Lord's Table

Lord’s Table - Lakewood - Hayes Elementary School (16401 Deleware Ave., Lakewood - parking in the lot off of Olive Ave. coming from the North) - 10:30 am to 11:45 am on Sunday, 6/2:

Hi all!

Well, we’ve almost made it through our preseason of Sunday church gatherings. It will be 9 gatherings in total.

We are very interested in your participation if you’ve not come to one of these. We want you to get a feel for what they’re like and we want your input. For those who help with set-up, we will be able to get into the school around 9 am.

As I’ve said many times, it’s been fun to see how our “liturgical” format can leave so much space for participation. We want Table to be a space where “everyone plays” and “nobody is picked last” (and I know how that feels). As I’ve said before, it’s not the kind of participation that singles people out.

After the service (around 12:45) we’ll have a pizza lunch at our house - the Buehrles (19781 Riverview Ave, Rocky River, OH) to celebrate the end of “preseason” Sunday gatherings and to look forward to the formal launch of our Sunday gatherings in September.

Peace my friends,

Matt Buehrle

Weekly Announcements for Tuesday 5/21 & Sunday 5/26

West Park Prayer to Action - Savor the Moment - 6:30 - 7:30 pm on Tuesday 5/21:

Over in West Park the Pantelemons are hosting a prayer time for anybody who wants to pray that the blessings of God's kingdom would be evident in West Park.  It takes place at the coffee shop (Savor the Moment on Rocky River Drive). There WILL be prayer, there MIGHT be coffee. As I’ve said many a time: I may not live in West Park, but I’m fond of that place.

Community Table - West Park - Hisey home (3847 W 146 St., Cleveland, OH) - 5:30 pm on Sunday 2/24:

Dinner starts at 6, but they’d love to see you early to chat, etc. Please bring a side or a beverage or a dessert and/or a friend. Please RSVP by noon on Sunday if you can so Steve and Destiny get a general head count to stevendestiny@gmail.com. This is for neighbors and friends who they consider neighbors for purposes of getting them a spot at the table. Basically a pot-luck party.

Weekly Announcements - Friday 5/17 & Sunday 5/19

Hi friends,

This week (spilling into Sunday) we have two formal gatherings. The Family Table in Rocky River is CANCELLED this week because - well - we’ve got too much going on :) … but the gathering at the Hisey home in West Park is still happening.

Also, please note that we have TWO LORD’S TABLE GATHERINGS LEFT THIS SPRING. Why am I writing this in ALL CAPS? Well, because if you’d like to get a TASTE of how our Sunday rhythms will be when we launch in the fall - this is a good time to check it out. I think we’ve got something special going on - that’s why I’d love for you to get a TASTE OF TABLE.

Family Table - West Park - Hisey home (3847 W 146 St., Cleveland) - 6:30 pm on Friday 5/17:

As always, it's a children's lesson with with a guided prayer time with pizza and other food and beverages before and more chatting afterwards in the neighborhood starting with a meal where you can bring something to share - but most importantly bring yourself.  Please let them know if you're coming (if you are able to let them know) by noon on Friday at stevendestiny@gmail.com. Come and hang out!

Lord’s Table - Lakewood - Hayes Elementary School (16401 Deleware Ave., Lakewood - parking in the lot off of Olive Ave. coming from the North) - 10:30 am to 11:45 am on Sunday, 5/19:

Feel free to invite your friends and neighbors. Some of you all have said you’d like to help with set-up. We will be able to get into the school around 9 am. Anyone who would like to volunteer their elbow grease, please show up.

As we continue to explore what Lord’s Table (Sunday service) can and should look like for us, I think we’ll be able to learn from each other and be encouraged by God through one another at the Lord’s Table. Like I said last time, it’s been fun to see how our “liturgical” format can leave so much space for participation. Not the kind of participation that singles people out. During these gatherings we not only celebrate God’s goodness, but also practice lament through the Psalms we read and the prayers we pray. We don’t gather to escape reality, but to bring ourselves and our concerns to God.

For future events, please go to our “Calendar of Events” page.

Weekly Announcements for 5/7 & 5/10 - Community Tables!

Hi friends,

1/2 of our two gatherings this week have a special theme - but both gatherings are special and important.

West Park Prayer to Action - Savor the Moment - 6:30 - 7:30 pm on Tuesday 5/7:

Over in West Park the Pantelemons are hosting a prayer time for anybody who wants to pray that the blessings of God's kingdom would be evident in West Park.  It takes place at the coffee shop (Savor the Moment on Rocky River Drive). There WILL be prayer, there MIGHT be coffee. I may not live in West Park, but I’m fond of that place (and the people who own it).  The prepositional phrase “to Action” means that they expect God to answer their prayers. And he does, he has, and he will.

International Food Night Belated Cinco de Mayo Edition - Rocky River - Buehrle home (19781 Riverview Ave, Rocky River) - 6 pm on Friday 5/10:

Bring a Mexican variety main or a side or a beverage or a dessert and/or a friend (your friends are our friends). If you’re feeling rebellious, bring something that isn’t related to the Cinco de Mayo party theme. Please RSVP by noon on Friday if you can so we’ll get a general head count to mattburly@gmail.com. This is for neighbors and friends who we consider neighbors for purposes of getting them a spot at the table.

Also, on Friday evening and Sunday morning, we prayed for the ministry of Safe Families for Children. To donate on a regular basis or as a one time gift, please go here.

Peace!

Matt

Weekly Announcements - 5/3 (Friday) & 5/5 (Sunday)

Hi friends -

What we do at Table is to aim at Biblical hospitality. I was reading a section in “Common Prayer: A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals” yesterday and found this to be a target to aim toward: “Not only were the early Christians to practice hospitality; they were to depend on it. There was no ‘us’ and ‘them.’ ‘My’ became a cussword for Christians. My house is no longer mine but is God’s, which means it is open to all.” The following are some of the spaces where we aim toward this vision.

Family Table - Rocky River - Buehrle home (19781 Riverview Ave, Rocky River) - 6 pm on Friday 5/3:

As always, it's a children's lesson with a guided prayer time with pizza and other food and beverages before and more chatting afterwards in the neighborhood.  Please let me know if you're coming (if you are able to let me know) by noon on Friday for the pizza order at mattburly@gmail.com and as always feel free to bring a side, dessert, and/or beverage to share. There will be one meatless pizza. Also, just so you’re aware, the lesson and prayer time are almost always from 7:15 to 8:00 pm. If you can’t make it during that time, always feel free to drop in before or after that time. The evening consists of more than the meeting time!

Family Table - West Park - Hisey home (3847 W 146 St., Cleveland) - 6:30 pm on Friday 5/3:

As always, it's a children's lesson with with a guided prayer time with pizza and other food and beverages before and more chatting afterwards in the neighborhood starting with a meal where you can bring something to share - but most importantly bring yourself.  Please let them know if you're coming (if you are able to let them know) by noon on Friday at stevendestiny@gmail.com. Just like the River Family Table, the evening consists of more than the meeting time.

Lord’s Table - Lakewood - Hayes Elementary School (16401 Deleware Ave., Lakewood - parking in the lot off of Olive Ave. coming from the North) - 10:30 am to 11:45 am on Sunday, 5/5:

Feel free to invite your friends and neighbors. Some of you all have said you’d like to help with set-up. We will be able to get into the school around 9 am. Anyone who would like to volunteer their elbow grease, please show up.

As we continue to explore what Lord’s Table (Sunday service) can and should look like for us, I think we’ll be able to learn from each other and be encouraged by God through one another at the Lord’s Table. If you’ve not come to Lord’s Table, I happen to think you’re missing out because I’ve enjoyed our format so much. It’s been fun to see how our “liturgical” format can leave so much space for participation from all! Not the kind of participation that singles people out. It’s also been exciting to hear God at work in weaving together the same themes from the Scriptures, testimony time, etc. What am I talking about? Guess you’ll have to come and see. During these gatherings we not only celebrate God’s goodness, but also practice lament through the Psalms we read and the prayers we pray. We don’t gather to escape reality, but to bring ourselves and our concerns to God.

For future events, please go to our “Calendar of Events” page.

Weekly Announcement - 4/16 (Tuesday); 4/19 (Good Friday); and 4/21 (Easter Sunday)

Hi friends -

Lent is coming to a close and resurrection season begins on Sunday. If you’re actively observing Lent, I hope you don’t rush through this week.

West Park Prayer to Action - Savor the Moment - 6:30 - 7:30 pm on Tuesday 4/16:
Over in West Park the Pantelemons are hosting a prayer time for anybody who wants to pray that the blessings of God's kingdom would be evident in West Park.  It takes place at the coffee shop (Savor the Moment on Rocky River Drive). There WILL be prayer, there MIGHT be coffee. I may not live in West Park, but I’m fond of that place (and the people who own it).  The prepositional phrase “to Action” means that they expect God to answer their prayers. And he does, he has, and he will. I’m not talking about spectacular things [necessarily]. I’m talking about sometimes being the answer to our own prayers.

Good Friday Service - Savor the Moment - 7:00 - 7:45 pm on Friday 4/19:
Again in West Park we are having an “uplugged” (guitar, Scripture reading, prayer) good Friday service. It will be a solemn and hopefully meaningful time for all. We’ll be setting up the chairs and tables in the shop to have our service. Because it’s a solemn and at times silent time, we will welcome all children who are able to participate.  It takes place at the coffee shop (Savor the Moment on Rocky River Drive).

This is in place of our Family Table gatherings.

Easter Sunday Lord’s Table - Lakewood - Hayes Elementary School (16401 Deleware Ave., Lakewood, OH - parking in the lot off of Olive Ave. coming from the North) - 10:30 am to 11:45 am on Sunday, 4/:21:

We don’t have a huge crowd at this gathering, but some have described the feel of our service as highly participatory, simple, and meaningful. Participatory, because it doesn’t feel like a performance - everyone “plays” without being singled out in doing so. Though we still consider this “preseason” or “soft open” church, real church community and worship happens in this space. Feel free to invite your friends and neighbors. Some of you all have said you’d like to help with set-up. We will be able to get into the school around 9 am. Anyone who would like to volunteer their elbow grease, please show up.

Finally, there will be an Easter brunch at 12:30 pm at the Buehrle home (19781 Riverview Ave., Rocky River, OH) following the service. If I know my wife (and I’m pretty sure I do) there will be something fun for kids. Probably not a helicopter hovering over our house dropping eggs, but something fun nevertheless.

For future events, please go to our “Calendar of Events” page.

Remember this week what I mentioned a couple weeks ago: the Lord is gracious and compassionate; slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness.

Weekly Announcements – Community Tables 3/19 & 3/22

Hi friends –

The gatherings for this week are as follows:

West Park Prayer to Action - Savor the Moment - 6:30 - 7:30 pm on Tuesday 3/19:

I may not live in West Park, but I’m fond of that place.

Lenten “Retreat” - St. Christopher’s Church in Rocky River - 7 pm on Tuesday 3/19:

Our friend and neighbor, Maureen Kishna has invited us to join her at an event sponsored by her church. I will be joining her and welcome you all to join us! We’ll be walking over to the church from our house (19781 Riverview Ave., Rocky River) at 6:45 pm. The “retreat” is a “Lenten journey down the Sacred Path with prayer, song, reflection, and stories” of the life long journey of Dan Schutte “in search of the Sacred.”

Community Table - Rocky River - Buehrle home (19781 Riverview Ave, Rocky River) - 6 pm on Friday 3/22:

Have a great week, my friends.

P.S. Here’s a couple pics below from our Lord’s Table gathering yesterday.

Weekly Announcements 3/15 to 3/17

Hi friends -

We’re entering the second week of Lent (for those who observe it). Whether you observe it or not, I hope you’ll be able to enter into this week finding God in the times that bring you joy, when you feel like you’re alone, and when you face sorrow. He’s waiting for you.

Family Table - Rocky River - Buehrle home (19781 Riverview Ave, Rocky River) - 6 pm on Friday 3/15:

As always, it's a children's lesson with a guided prayer time with pizza and other food and beverages before and more chatting afterwards in the neighborhood.  Please let me know if you're coming (if you are able to let me know) by noon on Friday for the pizza order at mattburly@gmail.com and as always feel free to bring a side, dessert, and/or beverage to share. There will be one meatless pizza.

Family Table - West Park - Hisey home (3847 W 146 St., Cleveland, OH) - 6:30 pm on Friday 3/15:

As always, it's a children's lesson with time to explore how to join God in his mission where we live work and play starting with a meal where you can bring something to share - but most importantly bring yourself.  Please let them know if you're coming (if you are able to let them know) by noon on Friday at stevendestiny@gmail.com.

Lord’s Table - Lakewood - Hayes Elementary School (16401 Deleware Ave., Lakewood, OH - parking in the lot off of Olive Ave. coming from the North) - 10:15 am to 11:45 am on Sunday, 3/17:

Don’t worry: Patrick the Saint will be mentioned and stay tuned for where people will be dining following the service to take in the full effect of St. Patrick’s Day.  Feel free to invite your friends and neighbors – and your enemies if you feel that bold. J After all, St. Patrick himself went to share the good news of Jesus with people who he should have considered his enemies.  Some of you all have said you’d like to help with set-up. We will be able to get into the school around 9 am. Anyone who would like to volunteer their elbow grease, please show up.

I often use the language of “cross pollination” as it relates to our Family Tables and Community Tables coming together. In fact, I’m copy/pasting this from two weeks ago, because I still believe it. J I think we’ll be able to learn from each other and be encouraged by God through one another at the Lord’s Table.

For future events, please go to our “Calendar of Events” page.

Remember this week: the Lord is gracious and compassionate; slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness.

Weekly Announcements 3/6 to 3/10

Hi friends -

We had our first “Table preseason” (as it relates to Sunday mornings in a public space) at Hayes Elementary School on Sunday. Again, Lord’s Table is where all our Tables come together to encounter God, share what God is at work doing at our Tables, and celebrate God making all things new - even us. For FAQ’s on the Lord’s Table, please click here. I enjoyed the gathering with Luke leading us in Scripture reading, Steven proclaiming the gospel, Josh leading us on his guitar to worship God, and me for making people stand too long because I forgot to say, “you may be seated” … a few times. The kids liked the novelty of it. Come on out next time and see what’s happening.

A wrinkle in the first gathering was the fact that Laurie was going to lead our Kids Table. We kept the kids in the service. Laurie was up all night with Jim (who is stable now) who decided to go to the ER on Saturday night at 11 pm! I saw him last night and he was in as good of spirits as one can be for not having slept since 4 am on Saturday morning! So, please be praying that he’ll get good rest. And for Laurie, too. That being said, they will not have their Prayer to Action at Savor the Moment on Tuesday. Also, our joint Ash Wednesday service will be at our house instead of Savor the Moment.

Ash Wednesday - Rocky River - Buehrle home (19781 Riverview Ave, Rocky River) - 7 pm on Wednesday 3/6:

We will be having a short service at our home to receive a cross of ashes on our foreheads to include prayers, confession, and song with guitar (thanks, Josh). Some great resources in preparation for Lent can be found over at the website of our friends - Liturgical Folk. Also, our friend in the neighborhood, Maureen has invited us to join her at a Lent event(s) next week. More details to come.

International DESSERT Night- Rocky River - Buehrle home (19781 Riverview Ave, Rocky River) - 8 pm on Friday 3/8:

Because two of our boys are in a play at the middle school (across the street from our house) - Pirates 2 at 7 pm, we will delay our International Food Night and turn it into an International DESSERT Night at 8 pm. Feel free to bring an International beverage and/or a small International dessert. If you want to join us for the show, feel free to come to the show at 7 pm, but come early so you can get a seat.

Renew Communities announces Table Communities as a church - Three services at Renew Communities in Berea via video on Sunday 3/10:

It’s Andy Sikora (one of the pastors) interviewing me in the video. If you have participated in Table and want to show up to answer any questions people may have alongside me, feel free to do so. I’ll be there at the end of the first service, throughout the second service, and until “social break” in the third service.

Also, short notice, but this event tonight at Scranton Road Bible Church through Building Hope looks to be very helpful. Naomi will be there. Don’t worry about registering if you want to go tonight. They can handle you being there.

Have a great week, y’all. Hope to see some of y’all soon.

Weekly Announcements – Family Tables 3/1; Lord's Table 3/3 at Hayes Elementary; Beyond!

Hi friends -

We’re one week away from the “Table preseason” (as it relates to Sunday mornings in a public space) at Hayes Elementary School. I’m looking forward to exploring with some (many?) of you all what a church service can look like in a public space with the Lord’s Table at the center of it all. Again, Lord’s Table is where all our Tables come together to encounter God, share what God is at work doing at our Tables, and celebrate God making all things new - even us. For the updated FAQ’s on the Lord’s Table, please click here.

Family Table - Rocky River - Buehrle home (19781 Riverview Ave, Rocky River) - 6 pm on Friday 3/1:

As always, it's a children's lesson with a guided prayer time with pizza and other food and beverages before and more chatting afterwards in the neighborhood.  Please let me know if you're coming (if you are able to let me know) by noon on Friday for the pizza order at mattburly@gmail.com and as always feel free to bring a side, dessert, and/or beverage to share.

Family Table - West Park - Hisey home (3847 W 146 St., Cleveland, OH) - 6:30 pm on Friday 3/1:

As always, it's a children's lesson with time to explore how to join God in his mission where we live work and play starting with a meal where you can bring something to share - but most importantly bring yourself.  Please let them know if you're coming (if you are able to let them know) by noon on Friday at stevendestiny@gmail.com.

Lord’s Table - Lakewood - Hayes Elementary School (16401 Deleware Ave., Lakewood, OH - parking in the lot off of Olive Ave. coming from the North) - 10:15 am to 11:45 am on Sunday, 3/3:

Some of you all have said you’d like to help with set-up. This week only, we will be able to get into the school around 9 am. Anyone who would like to volunteer their elbow grease, please let me know (mattburly@gmail.com) if you’ll be coming by Saturday at noon (if possible). That way, if I find out we have specific needs along the way, I’ll know I can contact you.

I’m excited that we have this public gathering in a public space. I often use the language of “cross pollination” as it relates to our Family Tables and Community Tables coming together. I think we’ll be able to learn from each other and be encouraged by God through one another at the Lord’s Table.

For future events (including an Ash Wednesday service at Savor the Moment on 3/6), please go to our “Calendar of Events” page.

Finally (these announcements are getting long!), Laurie Pantelemon told me about a free app for Common Prayer. In Google Play it’s called “Common Prayer: A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals” and was created by an organization called “The School for Conversion,” an organization committed to helping communities unlearn habits of social division. A resource I use for daily reading is called “Seeking God’s Face: Praying with the Bible through the Year.” I mention this because I think it would be cool and helpful if many of us could be reading the same passages and praying the same prayers throughout the year.

Okay, I’ve written enough. Let me end by saying may the Lord bless you all and be gracious to you all and may his face shine upon you all this week!

Weekly Announcements – Community Tables in West Park on 2/19 and 2/24

Hi friends –

We’re quickly approaching our public “preseason” Sunday services (Lord’s Table).  Details can be found in last week’s announcements here.  The events for this week are as follows:

West Park Prayer to Action - Savor the Moment - 6:30 - 7:30 pm on Tuesday 2/19:
Over in West Park the Pantelemons are hosting a prayer time for anybody who wants to pray that the blessings of God's kingdom would be evident in West Park.  It takes place at the coffee shop (Savor the Moment on Rocky River Drive). There WILL be prayer, there MIGHT be coffee. I may not live in West Park, but I’m fond of that place.  I’ll be there if my schedule doesn’t correct me (i.e. if I’m forgetting a commitment that night).

Just a pot-luck party.

I was reading “Seeking God’s Face” (readings and prayers compiled by Philip F. Reinders).  This was the reading for the day:

Mark 3:31-35 Then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, “Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.” “Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked. Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”

Following the reading is this beautiful prayer that I invite you to pray today:

Brother Jesus, out of the entire human race, from the beginning of time to this world’s dying seconds, you gather together the most unlikely people as a family. Politically left and right, rich and poor, crooks and commoners, adolescents and aged, skeptics and scholars, all united together as a family of faith in Jesus. In a world that struggles to live together with all our differences, make your church a beautiful display of created diversity and gospel unity. Amen. (HC 54)

Have a great week, my friends.

Weekly Announcements - Family Tables on Friday 2/15

Hi friends -

Of interest to some of you, the Cleveland Indians’ preseason is about to start. Of interest to others of you, the Table preseason (as it relates to Sunday mornings in a public space) is about to start! Naomi and I went and visited Hayes Elementary School on Friday. Our guide around the school was a woman named Sue who was extremely helpful and excited about our presence there for our Sunday gatherings (Lord’s Table) on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month starting in March. We anticipate the service starting at 10:30 am in the cafeteria. We’ll have the space set up with some tables and some benches with a Communion/Eucharist/Lord’s Table set-up at the center. The service will last one hour until 11:30 am. The younger children will be present with us for the first half of the service and then they will go off to Kids Table in the Art Room. Those who are working with the kids will bring them back to the cafeteria a few minutes after 11:30 in order to allow some additional mingling time for the adults and older kids and teens.

Again, Lord’s Table is where all our Tables come together to encounter God, share what God is at work doing at our Tables, and celebrate God making all things new - even us. For FAQ’s on the Lord’s Table, click here.
